Elektra
This design was commissioned by PATTERSONS BOATWORKS who had been working on the development of an all-electric boat primarily for use in environmentally sensitive areas such as Lake Windermere - where the yard is situated.
Battery operated vehicles of all sorts are currently enjoying a surge of interest as improved as battery technology is revolutionising viability. During these pioneering days the high development cost of batteries is largely paid for by the few brave individuals who are passionate enough about environmental issues to show the way forward. Their commitment in these early days will inevitably result in much more widespread accessibility of this great technology in the future.
We are very happy to have been involved with Simon Patterson’s project thus far because the LDL hull-type is ideally matched to the needs of electric propulsion. Although ELECTRA is capable of sustaining 15 knots for about an hour, her LDL hull (in contrast to a planing hull) allows her to benefit from much increased range as speed is reduced. At 10 knots, for example, she has a range of some 70 nautical miles.
