Molly Bŕn 62
MOLLY BÀN was commissioned by well-known serial boat owner Hal Sisk. In 2005 Hal had just completed the restoration of the 36 ft (11m) G.L.Watson designed Victorian cutter PEGGY BAWN and needed a ‘tender’ to accompany her around the Classic Yacht regatta circuit – providing a platform for race viewing and crew accommodation. MOLLY also had to provide power to charge PEGGY’s bank of propulsion batteries.
PEGGY BAWN's restoration was carried out under the technical supervision of Theo Rye, with whom NIGEL IRENS DESIGN has worked on a number of projects, so it was he who produced much of the detail design for MOLLY BÀN on Hal Sisk's behalf.
Building was carried out by TUCO of Fåborg, Denmark and the vessel launched in 2008, since which time she has traveled many thousands of miles on various voyages from her home port of Dublin.
The vessel is capable of 18 knots on a single 225 kw (305 hp) engine but on longer passages she cruises quietly, easily and economically at 13-14 knots.
